Recently, the reporter saw in the workshop of Fangda Group NHI that the coal mine road header produced by NHI is being assembled intensively by the assembly technicians. The “underground dragon” will be ready to delivery soon to show its great power in the future underground coal mine operation. It is more comfortable and safer than the traditional construction method, and the proud record is created by the labor productivity increased by ten times or even dozens of times. As a founder and leader of mine road header products in China, NHI is creating a new era for the development of coal mining equipment in China.

It is well known that China is rich in coal resource reserves which are located in deep buried layer with complicated geological conditions. The traditional blasting method or cantilever tunneling machine is basically used in coal mine roadway tunneling operation, while this kind of traditional coal roadway construction method which has been unchanged for decades, is faced with the disadvantages of slow progress, high cost, great security threats, poor working environment and poor tunnel forming quality, which is difficult to meet the needs of modern coal mine roadway construction.

In order to solve this worldwide construction problem, Fangda Group NHI has been always innovative. In 2014, the domestic tunnel boring (TBM) testing machine in coal mine with a diameter of 4.53 meters is developed for rock roadway in Zhangji mine of Huainan Mining Group. In 2015, it successfully advanced 2km in 500 meters underground. A new record of coal mine rock roadway construction was created, with the highest daily advance of 30.7 meters, average monthly advance of 404 meters, the highest daily advance of 10 times higher than the traditional technology, and the monthly advance of 4.5 times higher than the traditional technology.

Supposed that the equipment is a transition machine, then the 6.33m large-diameter full-section tunneling machine of coal mine rock roadway first domestically developed one with complete independent intellectual property rights, which was successfully fabricated by NHI on April 18, 2019, is the first series of products that are formally mature and face to the field of roadway construction in coal mines. This machine is specially designed for Shandong New Mine New Dragon Co. Ltd, aiming to solve many typical coal roadway construction problems, such as complex geological conditions, large underground depth, large tunnel diameter, long construction distance, poor construction environment and slow construction speed in horizontal roadway of Xinjulong mining area.

Since the end of last year, NHI’s coal mine road header continued to accelerate the pace of innovation. The road header with a diameter of 4.53 meters was delivered in December 2019 which was put into Xinyuan mine of Yangquan Coal Group, and has effectively improved and upgraded the actual problems encountered in the design and construction of the two previous delivered equipment. A major technical breakthrough has been achieved by the 4.53m diameter semi Coal Rock Road header delivered in March 2020. The equipment is suitable to change from rock strata to half coal and half rock bottom. A great breakthrough has been made in the applicability of the equipment in coal mines.
